The working at heights  course which is applicable to construction, maintenance, and telecommunications industries. Participants will be taught the various risks associated with working at heights such as falling, unstable structures, and objects falling from above, and how to minimize these risks through adequate planning. The course teaches risk and safety measures management as well as the selection and efficient use of protective devices such as ladders, work and height regulations, scaffolding, mobile elevated work platforms (MEWPs), and fall protection equipment (harnesses, lanyards, anchor points). Keywords in this segment include risk assessment, control measures, and compliance in safety governance which includes OSHA, Work at Height Regulations, and others. Participants will also discuss ways to provide for emergency responses and rescues when a fall occurs. At the end of the session, participants should be able to work at heights safely and with minimal chances of getting injuries.

After this course, participants will be able to work at height in a safe manner reducing the chance of accidents and complying with industry safety standards:

Risks of Working at Height

  • Be familiar with the most important hazards and risks of working at height such as falls, loose objects, or unreliable working surfaces.
  • Able to describe the serious and often life-threatening injuries caused by falls from height and the risk mitigation strategies that need to be in place.

Identification and Assessment of Fall Hazards

  • Be able to identify and assess fall hazards in real-life workplace settings including construction sites, warehouses, and rooftops.
  • Utilize risk assessment techniques to evaluate and control risks for all activities associated with working at height.

Equipment for Working at Height

  • Be familiar with tools for working at height including ladders, scaffolds, harnesses, fall arrest systems, and edge protection.
  • Able to demonstrate how to choose the right equipment based on the task, environment, and specific risks associated with the activity.

Applying Safety Procedures and Protocols for Fall Protection

  • Be acquainted with systems of fall protection including guardrails, safety nets, and personal fall arrest systems (PFAS) and their workplace application.
  • Learn how to operate safety equipment such as harnesses and lanyards, including proper maintenance and routine inspections of equipment.

Working at Height Regulations and Standards Compliance

  • Familiarize oneself with working at height regulations such as OSHA and local safety regulations covering compliance training, supervision, and equipment guidelines.
  • Learn how to fulfill these regulations through risk assessments, employee monitoring, training program evaluations, and implementation of safe work practices.

Height Work Practice Safety Culture Development

  • Learn how to actively promote a safety culture for workers operating at height through structured training and effective communication.
  • Understand the importance of continuous safety via routine audits, inspections, safety drills, and promotion of best practices for working at height.

Management of Emergencies and Affected Activities

  • Understand emergency procedures while working at height, including rescue operations and first aid response to fall-related injuries.
  • Learn the critical aspects of emergency preparedness and develop an emergency response plan tailored to height-related risks.

Training will be conducted via Microsoft Team Meeting, online. Meeting invites will be shared on the day before the first day of training.
