Usage of Respiratory Protective Equipment at Work offers basic training related to selection, usage, and maintenance of Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) in situations where employees are at risk of exposure to airborne hazards like dust, fumes, gases and vapors. Participants will be introduced to different categories of RPE such as disposable masks, half face respirators, full face respirators, and powered air purifying respirators (PAPRs) and how to use them correctly in accordance with workplace hazards and conditions. The course includes fit testing, user seal checks, and training to ensure correct use for effective protection. Special focus will be on recognizing the limitations of RPE, equipment maintenance, and meeting OSHA and NIOSH safety compliance. Participants will analyze case studies and recommend best practices concerning the use of RPE in high risk work zones such as construction, manufacturing, and chemical handling. At the end of the course, participants will know how to use RPE effectively in an ergonomic manner that reduces health risks associated with breathing hazards on the job.

At the end of this course, participants will learn how to competently utilize respiratory protective equipment (RPE) at the workplace while preventing contamination from inhalational hazards and complying with relevant health and safety legislation:

Recognizing Respiratory Risk Factors in the Workplace

  • Being able to detect common inhalational hazards such as dust, fumes, vapors and gases that can damage the respiratory system.
