The participants will become familiar with the risks that come from the storage of volatile materials including, vapor generation, possible ignition sources, and breaches of tank physiology. The course addresses proper safety measures which include, but are not limited to, proper tank construction, adequate ventilation, spill containment, and system grounding, bonding, and explosion protection. It also focuses on the adherence to international safety standards for workers such as NFPA and OSHA or API standards which specifies that best practices for safety at the workplace is maintained. The participants will also learn about practical aspects of incident fire control, emergency planning, and routine checks of the areas that need inspection, which encourages a preventive approach posture. The target audience includes professionals from oil, gas, chemicals, and the industrial sectors, and by participating in the training, the learners will be taught how to handle the storage of flammable liquids in a safe manner, fire and explosion risks are mitigated, and business regulatory requirements are met. After the course, the participants will understand the complete range of practices related to safe storage that will put into place ways of protecting people in extremely dangerous environments.

At the end of this course, participants will be able to identify the critical safety requirements while storing flammable liquids in tanks, as well as understand practical techniques to avoid accidents and ensure safety compliance:

Understanding the Risks of Flammable Liquids

  • Identify the characteristics of flammable liquids, their dangerous potential, flashpoint, ignition sources, and the residual vapor pressure.
  • Store safely all potential hazards such as fire, explosion, and environmental contamination while flammable liquids are kept.

Regulations and Standards for Flammable Liquids Storage

  • Familiarize yourself with enforcement bodies like OSHA, NFPA, and local safety regulations that give policies on the safe storage of flammable liquids.

Tank Design and Construction for Safe Storage

  • Understand materials and venting systems for the construction of the tanks that hold the flammable liquids as well as other containment measures.
  • Learn how to choose the right tank for a liquid to limit overpressure, leakage, corrosion, and design them in a way that limits risk.

Storage Tank Filling, Emptying and Maintenance Activities Safety

  • Practice safe filling and emptying procedures to eliminate the possibility of spills, overfills, and vapors escaping from the storage tank.
  • Define safety associated with the maintenance tasks, inspection, cleaning, and testing of the tank to identify potential hazards.
