Maintaining safety in the oil and gas sector is the outcome of proper planning and a systematic approach. This course covers the complete cycle related to the design, execution, and ongoing refinement of Safety Management Systems (SMS) pertaining to oil and gas activities. Participants will investigate, among other things, key components of hazard and risk management, process safety, safety investigation, and planning for emergencies. Compliance with safety and environmental protection legislation, such as OSHA PSM 29 CFR 1910.119, API RP 75, and ISO 45001 is included in the course materials as well. Focus is given on the control of major accident hazard, leadership in safety, and promotion of safety culture in operations both offshore and onshore. This training is intended for safety practitioners, managers, and engineers. It helps the learners in understanding and managing the safety, operational risks, and regulatory compliance specific to the industry. At the end of the training, participants will be able to execute and control a Safety Management System which is designed to manage health and safety risks while ensuring operational effectiveness.

At the end of this course, learners will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to develop, operate, and maintain Oil and Gas Safety Management Systems (O&G SMS) for safety, compliance, risk management, and accident prevention in oil and gas high-risk environments.

An Overview of Oil and Gas Safety Management Systems (O&G SMS)

  • Explain the importance and fundamental constituents of Oil and Gas Safety Management Systems (O&G SMS) with particular emphasis on the safety of personnel, equipment, and the environment.
  • Discuss the major components of an O&G SMS: hazard identification, risk assessment, operational control, and feedback loop for continual improvement.

Safety Assessment and Risk Evaluation for Oil and Gas Industry

  • Review methods of identifying and assessing risk relevant to oil and gas operations, with emphasis on hazard analysis, job safety analysis (JSA), and risk matrix application.
  • Understand how the identification of gaps leads to prioritization of risks and implementation of effective risk mitigation strategies to maintain safety for personnel in high-risk locations like offshore platforms and drilling rigs.

Policies, Procedures, and Compliance with Safety in Oil and Gas Safety Management System (O&G SMS)

  • Evaluate the function of safety policies and procedures regarding oil and gas operations while observing compliance to national and international statutes such as OSHA, API, and ISO 45001.
  • Acquire the skills to put together, implement, and routinely revise safety procedures for the specific risks and operational demands within the oil and gas field.

Emergency Response and Incident Management in Oil and Gas

  • Acquire skills on the development and implementation of emergency response plans for oil and gas operations such as oil spill response, evacuation procedures, and fire prevention and suppression procedures.
  • Comprehend how to conduct an examination of incidents/near misses, establish the primary factors, and take measures to avert such occurrences in the future.

Improvement Strategies and Safety Culture in Oil and Gas Industry

  • Learn how to foster a safety culture within the institution and promote proactive safety practices encouraging active employee participation at all levels of safety programs.
  • Learn how to apply continuous improvement measures to the evaluation and enhancement of safety performance to the Oil and Gas Safety Management System.

Training will be conducted via Microsoft Team Meeting, online. Meeting invites will be shared on the day before the first day of training.

Candidates will be provided a hard bound or soft material covering the whole course which can also be accessed through Phoenix LMS (learning management system) i.e. www.phoenixcpd.com

Successful candidates will be awarded with completion certificate awarded by Phoenix Safety Consultants UK
