This course is designed to focus on promoting safe and ergonomic practices in manual handling tasks. The course covers topics such as manual handling risk assessment, safe handling techniques, and ergonomic principles for reducing injury. The objective of the course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform manual handling tasks safely and efficiently, prevent accidents and injuries, and comply with relevant regulations and standards. The course may also address the importance of proper equipment selection, training, and continuous improvement in maintaining a safe and ergonomic manual handling process.  Instructional contact-time must be a minimum of 8 hours.

This course will offer participants a detailed understanding in various segments, which are not limited to:

  1. Introduction: Overview of the hazards and risks associated with manual handling and the importance of proper ergonomics,the key concepts and principles of manual handling and ergonomics.
  2. Manual Handling Standards and Regulations:Overview of OSHA regulations and industry standards for manual handling, how to ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards.
  3. Manual Handling Risk Assessment and Management: Techniques for identifying and assessing manual handling hazards in the workplace, how to conduct a manual handling risk assessment and evaluate the level of risk associated with specific tasks, Strategies for reducing and controlling manual handling risks.
  4. Body Mechanics and Posture: Overview of proper body mechanics and posture when handling materials, how to properly lift, carry, push, and pull materials to prevent injury, the importance of maintaining good posture to reduce the risk of injury.
  5. Mechanical Aids and Equipment: Overview of different types of mechanical aids and equipment that can be used to reduce manual handling risks, such as conveyors, trolleys, and lifting equipment,how to properly select, use, and maintain mechanical aids and equipment to reduce manual handling risks.
  6. Ergonomic Workplace Design: Overview of ergonomic principles for designing the workplace to reduce manual handling risks,how to properly layout and organize the workplace to reduce manual handling risks, the importance of proper lighting, ventilation, and temperature control in ergonomic workplace design.
  7. Workplace Assessment and Monitoring:Techniques for assessing and monitoring the workplace to identify and evaluate manual handling risks, how to conduct regular workplace assessments and monitoring to identify and evaluate manual handling risks.
  8. Training and Education:The importance of training and education in reducing manual handling risks, how to develop and deliver effective training and education programs on manual handling and ergonomics.

Training will be conducted via Microsoft Team Meeting, online. Meeting invites will be shared on the day before the first day of training.
