Managing Health and Safety in Roof Works course teaches how to control and reduce risks while working at heights while focusing on the construction, maintenance, and repairs of roofs. Attendees will understand the primary dangers of working edged areas such as falls, fragile surfaces, bad weather, and materials peril. The class teaches how to control falls, access provision, edge protection, and harness provision for personal protective equipment use. Risk assessment along with emergency planning and rules compliance with OSHA, HSE and ISO 45001 is emphasized strongly. It is intended for supervisors, safety personnel, and professionals working in roofing to facilitate the application of control measures and healthy practices within the work environment. It is expected that the students will reduce fall incidents and maintain a high safety culture in roof works by utilizing the practices that were provided during the sessions.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will know how to control health and safety risks in roofing activities and compliance to prescribed protective measures to avert danger while working overhead.

Fundamentals of Roof Work Safety and Roof Work Related Hazards

  • Recognize the critical hazards related to roof work including falls, electrical hazards, and exposure to the sun.
  • Understand the necessity of anticipating accidents and evaluating risks regarding safety and foresee safety measures on workers during overhead activities.

Compliance with Safety Regulations and Standards Relating to Roof Works

  • Know important safety rules and procedures for roof work, e.g. OSHA regulations, local safety orders, and general rules for working at height.
  • Know how these rules are observed and sustained by proper safekeeping of documents and close supervision of roof works.

Fall Protection Systems and Equipment Used in Roof Work

  • Study various safeguard systems and devices against falls in roof work such as guardrails, safety nets, and personal fall arrest systems (PFAS).
  • Describe the steps of the correct installation and maintenance and use of these systems so that the risk of fall and work at height will be ensured.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Roof Work

  • Identify and list PPE requirements for roof workers which comprise of helmets, gloves, harnesses, and non-slip footwear.
  • Discuss addressing roof work PPE selection and cover all the specific dangers that may be hazards in the work setting for safeguarding injuries to workers.

Emergency Procedures and Rescue Plans for Roof Work

  • Discuss emergency preparedness, response procedures and rescue plans for workers who may fall or get hurt during work activities.
  • Discuss the importance of emergency preparedness, such as teaching some personnel how to carry out the rescue, telling the proper people what the work is, and so forth.

Training will be conducted via Microsoft Team Meeting, online. Meeting invites will be shared on the day before the first day of training.
