Lifting and Rigging Equipment and Safe Operations course emphasizes on the proper and safe application of lifting and rigging tools in industries like construction, manufacturing, and even logistics. Participants will be familiarized with the various types of lifting and rigging equipment which include, but are not limited to, cranes, hoists, slings, shackles, and hooks, and how to choose the right tools to meet work specifications. This course teaches the importance of safety measures, which includes, but is not restricted to equipment defect inspections, load weight estimations, and appropriate rigging procedures to bolster accident prevention strategies. Such factors are evaluated in light of the problems caused by lifting activities like equipment collapse, overloading and rigging failures, which should be countered by effective planning and operational discipline. Participants will learn about OSHA and ASME guidelines, which help encourage compliance with safety standards and many other regulations. Upon completing this course, participants will become knowledgeable and skillful enough in performing lifting and rigging procedures while ensuring safety, harm reduction, and industry standard compliance.

After finishing this course, students will be able to operate lifts and rigging equipment while evaluating the safety of all industry-demanded standards relevant to handling loads:

Understanding Lifting and Rigging Operations

  • Identify all the classifying types of lifting and rigging equipment to include cranes, hoists, slings, shackles and other rigging hardware in construction, manufacturing, or industrial settings.
  • Identify the causative factors that lead to accidents and injuries related to lifting and rigging operations which could be averted by adequate planning and risk assessment.

Selecting the Right Lifting and Rigging Equipment

  • Understand how to choose fitting rigging and lifting equipment as per the load’s weight, dimensions, and nature of operation.
  • Learn evaluation of capacity and specification of lifting devices and rigging components relevant to safe and efficient operations.

Safe Lifting and Rigging Techniques

  • Understand safe lifting techniques such as load imbalance, correct sling angles, and the application of rigging gear that does not put strain on the equipment which can lead to failure.
  • Learn how to perform inspection and proper maintenance of lifting equipment to ensure lifting devices are in safe working conditions before they are put to use.

Learning Safety Protocols and Conducting Risk Management

  • Study the specific safety measures related to rigging and lifting activities, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), the creation of communication exclusion zones, and key methods of sign communication.
  • Learn how to identify risks such as load shifting, mechanical malfunctions, or changing weather, and develop strategies to mitigate those risks.

To Observe Safe Work Practices Related to Rigging and Lifting Operations

  • Explain the relevant safety policies for the organization, including OSHA, ASME, and the company's safety policies pertaining to lifting & rigging operations.
  • Discuss how these policies are adhered to and guarded through documentation, training, safety audits, and active hazard management frameworks.

Incidents and Emergencies in Rigging and Lifting Operations

  • Learn how to respond to emergencies related to rigging and lifting, specifically focusing on equipment failures, injury accidents, and load accidents.
  • Conduct investigations after incidents and utilize the findings to improve future lifting and rigging operations.

Training will be conducted via Microsoft Team Meeting, online. Meeting invites will be shared on the day before the first day of training.

Candidates will be provided a hard bound or soft material covering the whole course which can also be accessed through Phoenix LMS (learning management system) i.e. www.phoenixcpd.com

Successful candidates will be awarded with completion certificate awarded by Phoenix Safety Consultants UK
