Internal Auditor ISO 45001:2018 OHSMS course aims to prepare the participants to understand all the steps required to perform an internal audit of an Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) based on ISO 45001:2018. Attendees will understand the fundamentals of audits as well as appropriate compliance evaluation, non-conformance identification, and workplace safety improvements. Topics including audit design, risk-based auditing, hazards, root cause corrective action, and ISO 19011 compliance will be provided. Attention is also given to regulatory and legal boundaries, document control, and the global integration of OHSMS audit with the goals of the organization. The program is intended for safety practitioners, occupational health and safety auditors, and managers so that they will be able to assess the effectiveness of the processes for managing occupational health and safety, improve compliance and cultivate an environment where continuous improvement is encouraged. After the course, participants are expected to perform internal audits that improve the safety of the workplace in relation to ISO 45001:2018 requirements.

When completing this course, participants will acquire accompanying knowledge, skills, and competencies relevant to conducting an audit, assessing and evaluating the occupational health and safety performance in accordance with the ISO 45001:2018 requirements.

Understanding ISO 45001:2018 Requirements

  • Important clauses, terms, and definitions under ISO 45001:2018 will be taught, grasping the entire framework.
  • Basic principles of occupational health and safety management such as compliance to laws and regulations and risk-oriented thinking will be covered.

Role of an Internal Auditor in OHSMS

  • Health and safety internal auditors' expectations, attributes, code of ethics, and responsibilities will be learned.
  • The need for auditor objectivity, confidentiality, and impartial reporting and its impacts on audit outcomes is crucial and will be covered.

Planning and Preparing for an OHS Audit

  • Participants will be taught how to formulate an internal audit program, including scheduling and definition of scope, and selection of criteria.
  • Developing audit checklists with basic ISO 45001 clauses and specific organizational hazards will be covered.

Conducting the Audit Process

  • Skills on auditing through document reviews, interviews, observation, and sampling techniques will be taught.
  • Evidence gathered during the audit will determine non-conformities, opportunities for improvement, and whether there is existing evidence in the audit.

Communicating Results and Ensuring Continuous Improvement

  • Achieve proficiency in writing comprehensive audit reports and delivering presentations to appropriate parties.
  • Understand how to verify corrective actions and their effectiveness on health and safety risk levels.

Training will be conducted via Microsoft Team Meeting, online. Meeting invites will be shared on the day before the first day of training.
