Internal Auditor ISO 14001:2015 EMS course trains participants on how to conduct an internal audit of an Environmental Management System (EMS) in line with ISO 14001:2015 standards. Emphasis will be on understanding the principles, methodologies, and best practices for auditing environmental performance, compliance, and continual improvement. Other areas include audit KPIs development, planning, environmental risks evaluation, non-conformance identification, root cause analysis, corrective action, and compliance with ISO 19011 auditing standards. Additional focus is given to legal and regulatory context, sustainability, and document management. This program is intended for environmental practitioners, auditors, and managers. The participant will be able to evaluate EMS processes, facilitate legal compliance, and promote corporate social responsibility at the organisational level. By the end of the course, participants will be capable of carrying out internal audits that promote environmental responsibility compliant with ISO 14001:2015.

After taking this course, the participants will have the skills to prepare, execute, provide feedback on, and monitor internal audits regarding ISO 14001:2015 with consideration for environments and systems of continual improvement.

Understanding ISO 14001:2015 EMS Framework

  • Study all of the details of the ISO 14001:2015 system with particular attention to its main clauses and the principles of environmental management.
  • Examine the organizational context, its environment including its aspects, impacts, and life cycle consideration.

Internal Auditor Roles and Responsibilities

  • Analyze the expected behavioral conduct of an internal auditor during the EMS audit.
  • Appreciate the non-conformance issues the auditor is expected to resolve and the EMS improvements that have to be made.

Audit Planning and Preparation

  • Know how to organize an audit timeline, scope the audit, and develop the checklists for the audit.
  • Understand and analyze the relevant documents such as policies, objectives, and procedures related to the environment.

Conducting Effective EMS Audits

  • Training on how to conduct interviews and observations, how to review documents to obtain relevant information that can be used in assessing the environmental performance of the organization and the EMS.
  • Identify the compliance gaps, active control measures, and problem areas within the EMS.

Reporting and Follow-Up Actions

  • Writing of audit reports in conformance with ISO 19011 standard should be taught.
  • Advance and sustain strategies for improvement for the EMS and monitor, and verify corrective/preventive actions taken.

Training will be conducted via Microsoft Team Meeting, online. Meeting invites will be shared on the day before the first day of training.
