In this course, you will learn how to control the health and safety issues that arise in welding, flame cutting, and other related activities. It focuses on exposure to fumes, heat, radiation, electric fires, and explosions. Ventilation, personal protective equipment (PPE), fire safety measures, safe use of compressed gases, and emergency measures are explained in detail. Importance is also given to state occupational safety regulations, risk assessments, and the use of welding and cutting tools. This course is tailored for welders, supervisors, and safety officers and enables them to take preventive measures in order to safeguard worker health as well as the workplace environment. At the end of this course, learners will know how to eliminate risks and make it safe to weld and cut.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to conduct welding, flame cutting, and related operations while minimizing hazards such as fire, gas exposure, burns, and explosions.

The Basics of Welding and Flame Cutting Hazards

  • Identify major hazards associated with welding, flame cutting, brazing, and related operations.
  • Understand the risks of fire, electric shock, toxic fumes, and UV radiation, and how they impact personal safety.

PPE: Personal Protective Equipment and Safety Measures

  • Select appropriate PPE such as gloves, welding helmets, aprons, and eye protection for different tasks.
  • Learn correct handling and maintenance procedures for welding tools and equipment to ensure safe operations.

Fume and Gas Control Measures

  • Explore effective ventilation systems, local fume extraction methods, and proper use of respiratory protection.
  • Understand the health effects of exposure to metal fumes, gases, and residues from flux during welding activities.

Prevention of Fire and Explosions

  • Implement controls for flammable materials and ignition sources in welding and cutting zones.
  • Gain knowledge of safe storage, leak prevention, and handling of gas cylinders to avoid explosions.

Compliance with Regulations and Workplace Safety

  • Familiarize with local and international legal standards and regulations for welding safety.
  • Adopt safe work practices including barricading, supervision, and specific safety protocols for confined spaces and elevated work areas.

Training will be conducted via Microsoft Team Meeting, online. Meeting invites will be shared on the day before the first day of training.
