In Health and Safety in Textile Mills course we'll discuss the distinct health and safety issues associated with the workplace in textile mills, where workers are at risk because of machinery accidents, dust, noise pollution, poor ergonomics, and exposure to chemicals amongst others. Participants will become familiar with the governing safety laws and regulations pertinent to textiles such as OSHA instructions and best practices within the industries, as well as those regulations particular to the industry. The course includes methods of risk evaluation aimed at discovering perilous conditions like moving parts of equipment, harmful colored substances, or even fires. It also covers practical approaches to controlling hazards like machine guarding, ventilation, PPE, and safe chemical handling. Employee training, drills, and audits are some of the tools utilized in instilling safety culture in the firm which is the main focus of this course. At the end of the course, students are expected to develop skills and understanding on how to maintain effective workplace health and safety in textile mills while minimizing accidents.

After finishing this course, learners will have the right competencies to manage health and safety risks related to textile manufacturing and ensure compliance with the law. This encompasses:

1. Knowledge of the Health and Safety Hazards of the Textile Mills

  • Analyze the most significant hazards and risks which include and are not limited to machine risk, fiber inhalation, noise, chemicals, and ergonomic risk.
  • Analyze the health impacts as a result of exposure to these hazards, such as respiratory disorders, injuries to bones and joints, and hearing impairment.

2. Identifying and Assessing Risks in the Textile Industry

  • Understand how to practically identify and evaluate risks associated with the operation of simple machines, chemical processes, and workstations in textile mills.
  • Be capable of conducting thorough assessment of risks and developing control strategies for hazards to protect employees in the textile industry.

3. Implementing Effective Safety Measures and Controls

  • Study the basic steps to control and safeguard employees in textile mills through machine guards, dust extraction systems, and personal protective equipment (PPE) as the more common methods.
  • Develop the capability to manage the safety of subordinates at the workplace by administering ventilation, noise reduction, and training programs.

4. Compliance with Health and Safety Regulations

  • Review all the relevant healthcare and safety regulations for the textile industry such as OSHA, ISO, and local safety policies.
  • Review policies concerning compliance with occupational health and safety, incident reporting, and response planning.

5. Promoting a Culture of Health and Safety in Textile Mills

  • Teach how safety culture is fostered through worker supervision and safety training, compliance with safety regulations, safety audits, and adherence to safety measures.
  • Examine policies aimed at safety advancement through the use of education, communication, and leadership.

Training will be conducted via Microsoft Team Meeting, online. Meeting invites will be shared on the day before the first day of training.
