Health and Safety in Paper Industries course covers the fundamental components of workplace safety in paper manufacturing and recycling facilities. Participants will learn about hazards such as machine related injuries, dust and chemical exposures, fire risks, manual handling strains, and noise pollution. Additional safety covered in this course includes but is not limited to machine guarding, ventilation control, personal protective equipment, dangerous substance control, and emergency planning. Emphasis will be placed on legal compliance, incident-reporting techniques, and other preventative practices against workplace incidents. This training is specifically tailored for professionals at the worker, supervisor, and safety expert level in the paper industry. Participants will understand the principles of hazard control and accident prevention. They will also design an organizational safety culture within the company. Attendees will enhance their skills for increasing workplace safety, safeguarding employee health, and optimizing productivity in the production and processing of paper.

After completing the course, participants will have knowledge and relevant skills required to maintain safety in the operations of the paper and pulp industry by focusing on hazard control, compliance with legal requirements, and risk mitigation.

Recognizing Industry-Specific Hazards

  • Comprehend the specific hazards present in the paper manufacturing process, including machine entanglement, exposure to hazardous chemicals, and noise pollution.
  • Be aware of the potential risks posed by the accumulation of dust, sharp-edged tools, and confined spaces.

Practicing Machine and Process Safety

  • Study the correct safety measures for operating and maintaining cutting, pressing, and drying machines.
  • Observe lockout/tagout (LOTO) protocols while performing maintenance or servicing duties to prevent accidental start-up.

Controlling Chemical and Fire Risks

  • Be proficient in the safe handling and storage of hazardous chemicals used in pulping and bleaching processes.
  • Understand techniques to prevent explosions and fires in areas where paper dust or solvents may accumulate.

Teaching Ergonomics and Safety in Manual Handling

  • Apply ergonomic principles to reduce injuries from repetitive motions or manual lifting tasks common in the paper industry.
  • Understand correct manual lifting techniques and the use of mechanized aids for safe material movement.

Training and Ensuring Compliance with Regulations

  • Follow national and international occupational health and safety regulations relevant to the paper and pulp industry.
  • Enhance workplace safety culture through structured procedures like checklists, policy compliance, safety evaluations, and documented assessments.

Training will be conducted via Microsoft Team Meeting, online. Meeting invites will be shared on the day before the first day of training.
