This course is designed to stop shop for safety in the MVR industry. The course reflects changes in the industry since then, including air conditioning; airbags; hybrid vehicles; ‘compliant’ paints and spray guns; and Small and Medium Area Repair Techniques (SMART).

A group of industry experts have worked closely with HSE to make sure the advice represents good practice and helps operators stay within the law. It includes extensive study on:

  • safety in vehicle inspection pits;
  • tyre repair, replacement and inflation; and
  • safe spraying of isocyanate-containing paints.

The course covers specific health and safety issues faced by employers and the self-employed in vehicle maintenance and repair (including tyre, exhaust and windscreen replacement); body repair, refinishing and valeting; and the roadside recovery and repair of vehicles.It also covers topics that are common across the industry, such as working under vehicles; fire and explosion; noise and vibration; electrical safety; and organizing health and safety. Instructional contact-time must be a minimum of 8 hours.

  1. Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment: Types of hazards commonly found in motor vehicle manufacturing and repair industries, techniques for identifying hazards in the workplace, how to conduct a risk assessment and evaluate the level of risk associated with identified hazards
  2. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Types of PPE commonly used in the motor vehicle manufacturing and repair industries, how to properly select, use, and maintain PPE, training on the proper use of PPE
  3. Ergonomics and Workplace Design: The principles of ergonomics and how they apply to motor vehicle manufacturing and repair industries, techniques for reducing the risk of musculoskeletal disorders in the workplace, designing a workplace that promotes health and safety
  4. Safety Procedures and Emergency Preparedness: Standard operating procedures for safe work practices in the motor vehicle manufacturing and repair industries, how to develop and implement safety procedures, emergency preparedness and response planning
  5. OSHA Regulations and Compliance: Overview of OSHA regulations specific to the motor vehicle manufacturing and repair industries,how to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, training on OSHA regulations and compliance
  6. Fire Safety: Fire hazards and risks specific to the motor vehicle manufacturing and repair industries, fire prevention and protection measures, fire extinguisher usage and maintenance
  7. Hazardous Substances and Waste Management: Identifying and managing hazardous substances in the workplace, proper handling and disposal of hazardous waste, training on the safe handling and disposal of hazardous substances and waste
  8. Accident Investigation and Reporting: Techniques for conducting accident investigations, how to report accidents and incidents, how to identify and correct accident causes
  9. Conclusion: Recap of the importance of health and safety in the motor vehicle manufacturing and repair industries, the role of employees and employers in promoting health and safety in the workplace, the benefits of a safe and healthy work environment.

Training will be conducted via Microsoft Team Meeting, online. Meeting invites will be shared on the day before the first day of training.
