Handling and Storage of Flammable Liquids in Containers course teaches how to handle, store, and manage flammable liquids in the workplace to avoid possible fire risks and comply with regulations. The dangers of improperly stored flammable liquids and volatile substances are demonstrated and the most appropriate safe practices are fully outlined. Various topics such as container selection, labeling, ventilation control, fire containment and PPE (personal protective equipment) usage are appropriately discussed. A proactive approach to hazard identification, spill control, control of static electricity, and emergency planning are also highlighted. There is an overview of compliance with safety regulations in OSHA, NFPA, and other industry safety standards. The course is intended for safety officers, warehouse staff, managers of the facilities, and any personnel dealing with flammable materials. The participants will gain the ability to reduce fire hazards, enforce safety plans, and manage the workplace effectively. After completing the training, the attendants will be able to handle flammable liquids in a safe manner, reduce risks, and improve fire safety measures in the entire workplace environment.

After completing this course, participants will be able to demonstrate safe practices in the handling and storing of flammable liquids in containers by complying with safety regulations and minimizing fire or environmental damage.

Identification of Flammable Liquids and Their Risks

  • Define methods for the identification of flammable liquids in terms of flashpoint, boiling point, and volatility as per OSHA and NFPA norms.
  • Evaluate the impact of fire, explosion, and range of liquids on the environment and examine risks related to fire or environmental hazards associated with flammable liquids.

Basic Practices for Dealing with Flammable Liquids

  • Establish techniques for the transferring, pouring, and overall handling practices of flammable liquids so that there are no excessive spills or exposure.
  • Evaluate proper equipment usage and the risk of not using explosion-proof pumps, grounding cables, or other proper dispensing tools.

Primary Practices for Storing Flammable Liquids

  • Know the container type and markings needed for flammable liquids as well as the segregation of incompatible materials to improper pieces.
  • Define storage limits for flammable liquids within areas equipped with adequate ventilation, fire suppression systems, and spill containment.

Ensuring Compliance With Regulations Regarding The Storage of Flammable Liquids

  • Become familiar with other regulations and standards like OSHA, NFPA, and applicable local fire codes regarding the storing of flammable liquids.
  • Learn how to ensure that storage practices are legal, including the distance to ignition sources, maximum allowable quantities, labeling and signage, and more.

Responding to Emergencies and Spill Control

  • Ensure understanding of emergency response steps, including the need for swift action during flammable liquid spill, fire, and leak containment, evacuation, and immediate area lockdown.
  • Learn the application of various spill kits, fire extinguishers, and other emergency equipment meant for use during flammable liquid incidents.
