The purpose of H2S Safety in Oil and Gas Fields course is to guide learners towards understanding the critical safety issues of Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) in oil and gas industries and hydrogen sulfide monitor where this highly toxic gas exposure can lead to severe health challenges such as respiratory failure and death. Learners will appreciate the nature of H2S gas including its origin and the hazard it poses in both upstream and downstream processes. The course details basic safety requirements which include detection of H2S gas, provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and disaster response actions. Participants will gain the knowledge on risk assessment practices, control measures, and response planning of H2S incidents. This training also highlights the role of employee observation, training, and compliance with established safety regulations like OSHA and API as necessary components of most processes. Participants will learn how to risk mitigation strategy of H2S and protect the workers from potential hazards in the oil and gas fields by the end of this course.

After participants complete this course they will be able to improve the safety, compliance, and operational efficiency of oil and gas fields by properly managing and controlling the risks of Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) through enhanced handling and control methodologies.

1. Understanding the Risks of Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S)

  • Understand H2S characteristics such as level of toxicity, odor, and threat in the oil and gas industry.
  • Discuss inhalation hazards of H2S such as respiratory issues, poisoning, death, and physical risks while working in an oil and gas field.

2. Identifying and Assessing H2S Hazards

  • Know the sources of H2S that can be found at the workplace such as well drilling, gas extraction, and pipeline servicing.
  • Understand the techniques of monitoring and detection systems that can limit setting safe exposure levels for H2S.

3. Implementing Safety Measures and Control Systems

  • Discuss measures that can reduce the risks of H2S such as removable ventilation, protective clothing, safety devices, H2S scrubbers, and warning systems.
  • Emergency response protocols such as evacuation and first-aid for H2S poisoning, along with routine safety drill responsibilities will be explained.

4. Compliance with H2S Safety Regulations and Standards

  • Identify the relevant regulatory strategies relating to H2S containment in oil and gas fields, especially OSHA, ANSI, and any other governing relevant policies.
  • Identify methods of implementing and monitoring safety policies to ensure all actions taken are compliant—safety measures are indeed current and properly enacted.

5. Promoting a Culture of H2S Awareness and Safety

  • Evaluate the impact that training, routine communication, and periodic drills have on the development of an organizational culture that prioritizes H2S safety.
  • Discuss the impact that promoting an organizational culture where every employee within a function is forced to comply with H2S safety has on overall compliance with H2S safety.

Training will be conducted via Microsoft Team Meeting, online. Meeting invites will be shared on the day before the first day of training.

Candidates will be provided a hard bound or soft material covering the whole course which can also be accessed through Phoenix LMS (learning management system) i.e. www.phoenixcpd.com
