Grader Operator and Safe Operations course provides comprehensive instruction on the operation of motor graders in construction, road maintenance, and earthmoving work with a focus on unit productivity, quality and safety. Students will be able to identify the main parts and functions of a grader, develop operating and workplace safety procedures, and learn about machinery maintenance practices. Pre-operational checks, control of tilt and pan angles, hazard detection, and use of PPE are critical points in the course. Maneuvering techniques, working on slopes, visibility, and accidents common to graders are also covered. Issues concerning compliance with regulations, control of vehicular traffic in work areas, and actions in case of an accident are also dealt with. The training is aimed at grade operator, site foremen, and safety officers. Participants are taught safe and productive practices so that productivity and safety is enhanced on the worksites. Implementing safe grading processes, maintaining equipment functionality, and improving safety conditions are the key outcomes for participants in this course.

At the end of this course, participants will be able to effectively and safely operate graders while following compliance standards to avoid accidents and damages to equipment.

Understanding the Basics of Grader Operation

  • Identify and describe the parts of a grader like its engine and blade, its controls, and instrument panel.
  • Understand basic functions of a grader such as leveling, grading, and slope formation so operations are accurate and efficient.

Grader Safety Procedures and Risk Evaluation

  • Discuss safety measures to observe when operating graders like pre-operation checks, signaling, and hazard awareness.
  • Examine risks caused by grader operations like malfunctioning machinery, rough terrain, and operator fatigue.

Proper Use and Care of Grader Equipment

  • Analyze techniques for optimal grader performance on dirt, gravel, and asphalt terrains while reducing equipment wear.
  • Identify regular maintenance tasks of a grader including checking fluid levels, inspecting blades, and performing general safety checks.

Graders in Various Work Settings

  • Obtain skills to operate graders on construction, road, and mining sites.
  • Prepare for any changes required for particular ground conditions, for example slope surfaces and uneven areas, assuring safety and efficiency.

Emergency Response and Grader Incident Management

  • Establish a precise understanding of the emergency response procedures along with how to act during a breakdown, accident, or bad weather.
  • Familiarize yourself with the appropriate response actions for grader incidents, including evacuation and notifying supervisors of the accident.

Training will be conducted via Microsoft Team Meeting, online. Meeting invites will be shared on the day before the first day of training.
