Forklift Safety and Safe Operations course trains participants on optimal and safe practices in forklift operations with specific attention to accident reduction, load management, and overall safety regulations compliance. Different types of forklifts and their parts, as well as controls and the ergonomic ‘driving’ of the forklifts will be discussed and important safety procedures to avoid collisions, tip overs and unstable loads will be practiced. This will also include carrying out basic safety checks and rotations, movement and driving styles, maximum load estimates, balance principles, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly. Participants will also address issues of personal safety while working in a crowded environment, confined spaces restrooms, and adhering to OSHA, ISO and other industry specific safety and health regulations. This is aimed at forklift drivers, warehouse staff, and site foremen and will help them operate forklifts while avoiding risks in the workplace and improving site safety. At the end of this course, participants will be able to use forklifts in a safe manner, support dependable productivity, and contribute to a safer working environment.

The course participants will know the risks floors have on a workplace as well as knowing how to drive a forklift, how to prevent accidents, and how to stay safe in the workplace.

Forklift Hazards

  • Upon course completion, the participant should be able to tell what the machine’s tip hazards are; collisions, and improper load handling.
  • Uneven surfaces, poor lighting, and obstacles are other accident contributing factors. The student gets along with these external factors as part of the broader system.

Safety Regulations of Forklift Operatives

  • In this section, you familiarize yourself with the regulatory mandate around the use of the machine: OSHA as well as local statutory directives.
  • Using operational standards always enforced in the workplace assists in accident prevention.

Safe Forklift Operative Procedures

  • Procedures like load, handrings turning, and moving in and out of confined spaces are very critical and should be followed.
  • A practical 'walk around' check procedure is going to be developed for the various parts of the forklift.

Effective Procedures in Loading and Off-Loading of Materials

  • A person should know how a forklift can be used for materials off the lift without causing falls and for proper placement onto the lift.
  • Stability is key, for grabbing the load, while use of counterbalance forklift must be maintained in all forms to prevent it tipping over during movement.

Emergency Forklift Procedures and First Aid

  • Know what to do in case of accidents, spills, or fires involving a forklift.
  • Know basic first aid for common forklift injuries like fractures, crush injuries, and sprains.

Training will be conducted via Microsoft Team Meeting, online. Meeting invites will be shared on the day before the first day of training.

Candidates will be provided a hard bound or soft material covering the whole course which can also be accessed through Phoenix LMS (learning management system) i.e. www.phoenixcpd.com

Successful candidates will be awarded with completion certificate awarded by Phoenix Safety Consultants UK
