Forklift & MEWP Operations and Operator Assessment course focuses on risk control, training, and evaluation of competency in Forklift and Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) operations and their use. Different classifications of forklifts and MEWPs, their parts, controls, and safety equipment are covered. Other important concepts that are taught include principles of stability, load handling, maneuvering in tight places, working on elevated surfaces, and emergency actions. The course pays particular attention to the procedures of inspecting equipment prior to its use, recognizing dangers, covering fall prevention, and adherence to OSHA, ISO, and other safety regulations and standards. For operators, supervisors, and safety persons, this teaching incorporates techniques in operator evaluation such that the competence in safe manipulation and operation of the machines is achieved. At the end of this training, the student will be able to operate the forklifts and MEWPs proficiently while taking all necessary precautions to avoid risks on the site.

At the end of this course, participants will be able to use Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) and forklifts and perform a self-assessment for operator’s competence evaluation for safety and legal standards of practice within the industry.

Forklift and MEWP Risks

  • Identification of risks which may include falling, collision, and tipping while using and operating a forklift or MEWP.
  • Understanding of workspace as a surrounding could pose risks to injury or accident(s).

Safety Regulations for Forklifts and MEWPs

  • Obtain OSHA, ISO, and local MEWP and forklift use legislation and regulations bound by space and locality.
  • Identify an aspect of the workplace that needs standard operating procedure(s) in preemergence of an accident.

Operating Techniques for MEWPs and Forklifts

  • Correct operation of MEWP and forklift by turning, lifting, and driving them to restricted areas.
  • Obligation to make sure diagnoses are done before use on equipment that will not pose dangers and be safe for use.

Evaluation of Competence and Operators

  • Demonstration and understanding of MEWP and forklift along with practical skills evaluate operator’s competence, skills and knowledge.
  • Understand how to implement and evaluate continual training for operators to increase performance in safety as a competency.

Emergencies and First Aid Involving Forklifts and MEWP Accidents

  • Familiarize yourself with the proper emergency procedures for incidents involving forklifts and MEWPs whether it be an accident, spill, or mechanical breakdown.
  • Be knowledgeable on basic first aid treatment of injuries related to operation of forklift and MEWP such as fractures, crush injuries, and falls.

Training will be conducted via Microsoft Team Meeting, online. Meeting invites will be shared on the day before the first day of training.
