Electrical Safety in Switchgears course is designed to teach participants how to operate, maintain, and manage risks associated with electrical switchgear systems found in industries and commercial establishments. Controlling, protecting, and isolating electrical equipment is handled by switchgear, which is critical towards active electrical devices, but if mishandled, can cause life threatening electrical incidents like arc flash, electric shocks, and system failures. This training covers basic principles that include the parts of switchgear, dangers of operating them, lockout/tagout or LOTO procedures, insulation resistance testing, and maintenance of equipment. Arc flash and PPE (personal protective equipment) best practices are also taught alongside relevant standards such as NFPA 70E and IEC guidelins so participant will know how to mitigate risk effectively. This training aims to increase the level of electrical safety in the workplace, control the level of risk, and achieve compliance within the boundaries of set policies for electricians, maintenance workers, and safety officers through simulations and real-case scenarios alongside practiced safety techniques.

When this course is done, the participants will have the knowledge and skills to apply electrical safety principles within switchgear settings, ensuring all tasks, maintenance, and operations are performed safely and in accordance with the policies of relevant safety frameworks.

Learning Outcomes from Training: Basics of Switchgears and Electrical Safety

  • Gain the learning objectives related to the switchgear systems and their parts, and their functions within the network of electrical distribution.
  • Grasp fundamental electrical safety aspects that apply to the operations and installations of switchgear including the identification of risks and how to control them.

Evaluating the Level of Risk Associated with Operative Work Related to Electrical Switchgear

  • Help learners identify typical electrical safety risks linked to switchgear devices like electrical arcs, short circuiting, and high voltage scoping.
  • Explain the uniqueness of electrical isolation and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures for the maintenance and repair works aimed at accident and injury prevention.

Standards of Care and Maintenance of Electrical Devices Protective Measures

  • Relearn the safety measures and protocols relevant to the installation, operation, and maintenance of switchgear to include IEC and NEC standards and regulations.
  • Learn how to perform maintenance routines and checks so the switchgear remains functional and safe during operations.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Electrical Work

  • Know the personal protective equipment (PPE) relevant to work with switchgear, including insulating gloves, arc flash clothing, and face shields.
  • Learn the proper use and maintenance of PPE to protect the safety of workers when operating or maintaining switchgear.

Emergency Procedures and Incident Response in Switchgear Systems

  • Master the electrical emergencies such as fire, electrical shock, and system fault involving switchgear.
  • Identify critical aspects of electrical accidents including evacuation procedures, first aid for shock, and emergency communications.

Training will be conducted via Microsoft Team Meeting, online. Meeting invites will be shared on the day before the first day of training.

Candidates will be provided a hard bound or soft material covering the whole course which can also be accessed through Phoenix LMS (learning management system) i.e. www.phoenixcpd.com

Successful candidates will be awarded with completion certificate awarded by Phoenix Safety Consultants UK

This course will be useful for a wide range of professionals including but not limited to:

  • Safety managers and coordinators having major responsibilities of occupational safety and health.
  • Supervisors and team leaders
  • Environmental health and safety specialists
  • Construction workers and site managers
  • Manufacturing and industrial plant workers
  • Human resources personnel for better understanding of occupational safety and health to support business continuity
  • Facility managers
  • Risk and insurance managers
  • Health and safety consultants
  • Office and administrative workers
  • Anyone who wants to develop a deeper understanding of the principles and practices of occupational health and safety, and how to minimize workplace hazards and ensure the well-being of employees.
