Developing Process Safety Indicators course focuses on developing process safety indicators (PSIs) and monitoring/supervising safety results in dangerous industries. In high-risk industries, process safety incidents can lead to disastrous outcomes, underscoring the importance of proactive measures and ascertaining gaps using leading and lagging indicators. This course encompasses the fundamentals of process safety management (PSM ), a selection and classification of PSIs, data collection techniques, trend analysis, and integration of indicators into risk management systems. Attendees will understand how to apply PSIs in specific industries to meet best practices and legal frameworks such as OSHA’s PSM Standard, CCPS, and API RP 754. Using case studies and hands on instruction, this training helps safety personnel, engineers, and managers develop skills to mitigate operational gaps, improve safety, and support the ongoing advancement of process safety management systems.

Following this course, participants will be able to understand how to develop helpful process safety indicators (PSIs) that aid in monitoring, controlling, and enhancing safety in processes within high-risk industries.

Understanding Process Safety Indicators (PSIs)

  • Remember the definition of process safety indicators and address their relevance in risk mitigation for industrial operations.
  • Skim through the steps taken to manage and monitor safety performance through PSIs in chemical manufacturing, oil refining, and petrochemical production processes.

Key Components of Effective Process Safety Indicators

  • Name the components that aid in constructing an effective process safety indicator, leading and lagging indicators, measurable data, and set safety goals.
  • Display knowledge regarding active and passive safety measures and the influence they pose on PSIs.

Developing Leading and Lagging Indicators for Process Safety

  • Identify incidents prevention strategies that lead to safety audits, near-miss reporting, and equipment reliability metrics, making them leading indicators.
  • Analyze the aftermath of the incident's influence through accident frequency rates, measuring their use as process deviations and resulting injuries, thus using them as lagging indicators.

Benchmarking PSIs and Benchmark Standards PSIs

  • Comprehend the methods of setting achievable and impactful benchmarks for monitoring processes concerning the performance level of safety using various safety systems.
  • Understand how to develop standards using safety audits and historical data aligned with industry standards and practice guidelines for ensuring safety.

Driving Continuous Improvement with Process Safety Indicators

  • Process Safety Management is comprehensive, and learn how to use PSIs for trend identification, safety gap evaluation, and remedial action for continuous systematic enhancement.
  • Grasp the significance of PSIs in the promotion of organizational safety culture by empowering staff to take part in self-regulation regarding safety monitoring and decision-making.

Training will be conducted via Microsoft Team Meeting, online. Meeting invites will be shared on the day before the first day of training.

Candidates will be provided a hard bound or soft material covering the whole course which can also be accessed through Phoenix LMS (learning management system) i.e. www.phoenixcpd.com

Successful candidates will be awarded with completion certificate awarded by Phoenix Safety Consultants UK
