Biological Monitoring in Workplaces course enables learning of biological monitoring for workplaces which is crucial for analyzing health and safety of employees. This will provide participants with the scope and advantages of biological monitoring, biological monitoring service, which includes identifying the preliminary signs of exposure to chemicals, heavy metals and other toxins via blood, urine, and breath tests. The essential concepts of exposure assessment with biomarker selection and monitoring results interpretation for health risk evaluation are included in the course. Special attention is given to implementation of biological monitoring as part of an integrated workplace health program including risk communication, assent, and confidentiality. Participants will consider other legal and industrial required guidelines for biological monitoring program implementation in manufacturing, healthcare, and mining industries. After completion of this couse, participants will be able to implement biological monitoring strategies focused on health protection of workers and fulfilling occupational safety requirements.
After completion of the course, the participants will be able to apply the knowledge and skills necessary to administer biological monitoring programs within the framework of a health risk assessment and safety – industrial hygiene. Participants will be able to recognize biological hazards, acquire biological specimens, interpret results, and maintain legal and safety standards for protecting workers within the hazardous environment.

Understanding Biological Monitoring and Its Importance

  • Understand biological monitoring as a mean to evaluate a worker’s exposure to potentially dangerous substances.
  • See the importance of biological monitoring in determining the health risk and controlling exposure to risk factors below the harmful level.

Biological Monitoring Methods and Techniques

  • Classify the various techniques of biological monitoring including; analysis of urine, blood, and expired air.
  • Master the principles of biological sample collection including sample handling and postage to the laboratory for analysis.

Interpreting Biological Monitoring Results

  • Master the interpretation of the biological monitoring tests results and appreciate the value of such results.
  • Explain how biomonitoring contributes to the observation of exposure trends and the determination of efficiency of implemented protective measures.

Health Risk Assessment and Safety Compliance

  • Provide assessment and control strategies to use biological monitoring results for health risk assessment in relation to occupational hygiene.
  • Familiarize with legal policies and biological monitoring safety frameworks like OSHA and other safety regulations.

Implementing a Biological Monitoring Program

  • Learn a step by step approach to creating a biological monitoring program.
  • Define the scope of training and documentation required to achieve compliance along with regular monitoring of the health and safety standards.

Training will be conducted via Microsoft Team Meeting, online. Meeting invites will be shared on the day before the first day of training.
